Direct to Consumer Wine Bottle Prices up 21.6%

There may be a large difference in the price of wine across the 50 states, but one thing is shared by them all, the average selling price of a bottle of wine has been on the rise.

In 2020, the average price of a 750ml bottle of wine sold through Vinoshipper was $19.50. Two years later, the average price has risen 21.6% to $23.70.

There are multiple effects that could be at play here:

1.       Premiumization continues to be a trend. Consumer opt to buy less wine but spend a greater amount on their purchase.

2.       Production and overhead costs have increased for producers which are being shared with the customer.

3.       Producers are finding success in lowering or removing discounts on bottle prices and instead are offering to include shipping or offer subsidized shipping rates.
